FAQs about the therapy practice

I'm not from a culturally and racially diverse community, nor am I LGBTQIA+. Can I still book a counselling session?

Absolutely. While Safe Harbour Therapy specialises in supporting LGBTQIA+ and culturally and racially marginalised clients, everyone is welcome. No matter your background or identity, you'll find a safe, supportive space here. So yes, please feel free to book a session. I look forward to connecting with you.

Do you offer Medicare rebates?

I understand how important that is for many of my clients. Right now, I don’t accept Medicare rebates, but I want to assure you that my pricing reflects what you would typically pay out of pocket if you did have a Medicare rebate. I'm here to help in any way I can!

Do you accept clients supported by financial assistance programs like Victims of Crime?

Yes. I welcome clients accessing therapy through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) for victims of crime. If you're eligible for this support, feel free to get in touch to discuss how we can begin working together.

How do I book an appointment?

Simply click on the 'Book Your Session' button, then choose either a face-to-face or online appointment. It's as easy as that!

How do I pay for my appointment?

Pay for your session when you book, just like an online purchase.

What is the difference between a psychotherapy and a counselling

The terms psychotherapist and counsellor are often used interchangeably, and both professionals are trained to support your mental health and wellbeing. The main difference lies in the depth and focus of the work: Counsellors often support people with specific issues or short-term challenges, like stress, grief, relationship concerns, or decision-making. The work tends to be more present-focused and practical. Psychotherapists typically work at a deeper level, exploring long-standing patterns, emotional difficulties, or past experiences that may be affecting your present life. This work may be longer-term and insight-oriented. At Safe Harbour Psychotherapy, I offer both counselling and psychotherapy, tailored to what you need, whether you're navigating something right now or looking to explore more deeply.

What should I expect for my first therapy session?

Your first counselling session is a gentle starting point. We’ll talk about what’s brought you here, what you’d like to work on, and how I can support you. There’s no pressure to share everything right away we’ll go at your pace. It’s also a chance for you to see if this feels like the right fit for you.

Where are in-person appointments held?

In-person sessions are held at a professional counselling space in Warrnambool. Once your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with the address.

How do I attend an online therapy appointment?

Online sessions are conducted via Zoom. After your appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with a link and instructions on how to join your session from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

Do I need a referral or a mental health care plan?

You don't need a referral or mental health care plan to attend counselling sessions at Safe Harbour Psychotherapy.

Can I change or cancel my appointment?

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee. To reschedule or cancel your appointment, simply use the links in your confirmation email.

The times on the calendar don't work for me. Could we discuss other appointment times?

Sure, please fill the 'Contact' form and we will contact you within 24 hours.
